Passing the Belizian border from Guatemala is no problem at all. The usual stuff as filling in some imigrationpapers at paying a normal tax of $2 and you are in Belize. Of course it takes a while all together, but what's new. A kilometer before the Guatemalan-Belizian
border the bus will
stop and about 10 to 15 Guatemalan men want to sell you Belizian dollars.
This is a very hectic moment, they are all running into the small bus,
even though the bus is already completely full of people. Be carefull with
the stuff you carry, put everything into your bags or in your pockets.
This is really a very strange situation. The rates are not bad though, so
you can easily do it. They even accept travellers checks. From Belize City we took a boat to Caye Caulker, we just wanted to relax a few days. The bus dropped us of at the harbour, so we didn't have to go trough all of the city. |
The harbour of Belize City |
What
can I say. This is just a great island to spend a few days. It's exotic, the
water is very, very blue, the water is cool, the beer tastes very good, you can swim between
sharks,
the
people here are (very) relaxed, there must be some
excellent diving spots (the Blue Hole must be amazing). There is only not a
great, comfortable sand beach to lay down for a few hours, but that is not
really necessary. The local motto is Go Slow and all inhabitants live by this
rule. We did try to walk as slow as possible, but still we overtook some locals
!!!

| Waking up in the morning with a view like this from our balcony is waking up very happily. . | This is how some people live here. There are also only sand roads here and the public transport are golf cars !! | Our capitan on our boattrip holding a nurse shark. You can swim here between a great number these sharks and some sting-rays. A great experience |
